China's largest online travel company, CTRP.O, said on Wednesday it agreed to buy Skyscanner Holdings Ltd, a Scotland travel search firm, valued at about ? 1.4bn ($ 1.44bn).

Ctrip shares rose 9.2% in after-hours trading at $ 44.75.

Skyscanner allows you to compare prices on various travel websites with Skyscanner to search flights, hotels and car-rental.

The site currently has 60 million monthly active users, available in more than 30 languages.

The site raised ? 128m in a round of financing in January, with investors including Malaysian Treasury Holdings - Malaysia Treasury Holdings and Yahoo Japan (4689.T). At that time the valuation of the company is 1.6 billion US dollars.

Ctrip said that the completion of the acquisition transaction, Skyscanner existing management team will continue to operate independently.
